Komodo National Park is the home of the world’s largest lizards – the Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis).
These lizards are superlative in many ways – lengths of up to ten feet ( 3 meter ), up to 300 pounds (135 kg) in weight.
The Komodo Dragon is found on only two islands in the world : Komodo and Rinca island, which sit just west of Flores and three islands east of Bali in the Indonesian archipelago.
These lizards can run as fast as most dogs, climb trees, swim, and stand upright for brief periods.
They’re so powerful, they kill creatures 10 times their size with a single bite.
Make sure that you always keep a proper distance to them, and never visit the islands without a local guide. Watch out for venomous snakes as well.
However the island itself is a popular spot with divers and non-divers alike so you are likely to meet other travellers there.
There are many gorgeous white sand beaches, surrounded by coral reefs that are among the richest marine environments in the world.
