Penglipuran – Balinese Traditional Village

Penglipuran is a traditional village located at Jalan Raya-Kintamani Bangli, Bangli, or 45 kilometers from Denpasar-Bali. According to the village elders, the words Penglipuran is derived from words Pengeling Pura means a holy place for remembering their ancestors.

Another opinion stated that Penglipuran is derived from the word Penglipuran means relaxation. Since the royal period, this place was a good spot for resting place. The village has cultural potency which is up to the present time still well preserved in the form of traditional Balinese buildings; which differentiate this village from others.

Another uniqueness of this village is each plot have the same area between 8 to 11 acres. This land area is the ancestral heritage which is divided into parts: East and West.

Most of the people here are farmers and just few as civil servants. Dance and handicraft are well developed in this remote village.

Another thing that I find interesting about this village is the rules that apply to all the residence of this village to sweep twice a day ( morning & evening ) and to cut the grass in the park road twice a month.
If that does not comply, a fine will be imposed. No wonder the village is very clean.

Unfortunately, this village does not provide lodging or home stay to accommodate tourist.
